I've actually seen some really interesting fandom-minded debates about that sort of thing. Like this one great discussion that started with "If you have sex with an AU version of your partner, does it count as cheating?"

...but yes, this is Very Bad, and things pretty much go crashing downhill from here.

But in this case there's also the complication that each Stephen will unknowingly end up sleeping with someone they didn't consent to sleep with. How dreadful you think that is depends a lot on whether you think the two Jons count as the same person.




Are you thinking of Four Fics That Never Would Have Worked In The Liberalverse, And One That Actually Might Work Better? It's all l!Stephen, but one of them is Expectingverse, and another involves character death.

I gotta say, I actually had fun coming up with a story where it was Jon(s) who did the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Thing, and Stephen(s) who had to figure out how to cope/forgive/pick up the pieces.

Right, I know what you mean. I guess I was thinking since each Jon is allowing his counterpart to sleep with the other's Stephen (I'm not sure if that's worded correctly), then the consent among the Jons would... oh nevermind. The Stephens are fragile and this can only end badly... though I'm really curious to find out HOW they discover the ruse...
